English Translation
Jabir ibn Sulaym (Abu Jurayy) said: "I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he was sitting wrapped in a cloak whose edges had fallen upon his feet. I said: 'Which of you is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah?' He pointed to himself with his hand. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am from the desert people and have their roughness. Please advise me.' He said: 'Do not belittle any act of kindness, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face or pouring from your bucket into the vessel of one asking for water. If a man insults you for something he knows about you, do not insult him for what you know about him — the reward will be for you and the sin upon him. Beware of letting your garment hang, for it is a form of arrogance, and Allah does not love arrogance. And do not curse anyone.' He said: 'After that I never cursed anyone — not a person, not a sheep, not a camel.'"
