English Translation
Narrated al-Harith ibn Hassan: I passed by an old woman at al-Rabadhah who was stranded, from Banu Tamim. She said, 'Where are you headed?' We said, 'We are going to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).' She said, 'Take me with you, for I have a need with him.' He said, 'I entered the mosque, which was packed with people, and there was a black banner fluttering, and Bilal was girded with a sword, standing before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). I sat in the mosque, and when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) permitted me, I entered. He said, "Was there something between you and Tamim?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, and we had the upper hand over them. I passed by an old woman from them at al-Rabadhah who was stranded, and she said she had a need with the Messenger of Allah, so I carried her, and there she is at the door." He permitted her entry. When she sat down, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you would place the Dahna between us and Tamim, please do so, for it was once ours." The old woman became agitated and seized with pride, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, then where would you drive your Mudar?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I am like the proverb: a she-camel carried her own destruction. I carried this woman not knowing she would be my opponent. I seek refuge in Allah and His Messenger from being like the emissary of Aad." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "And who is the emissary of Aad?" I said, "You have come upon one well-informed." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "He is inviting me to tell the story." He said, "Aad suffered drought, so they sent their emissary Qayl, who stayed with Mu'awiyah ibn Bakr for a month, drinking wine while two singing girls entertained him. Then he went to the mountains of Mahrah and said, 'O Allah, You know I did not come for a prisoner to ransom nor a sick person to cure. So give Your servant the rain You will give, and give Mu'awiyah ibn Bakr a month to thank him for the wine he drank at his place.' Dark clouds passed, and a voice called from them, 'Choose the cloud.' He said, 'This is a dark cloud indeed.' A voice called, 'Take it as ashes, raging dust, leaving none of Aad.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have heard that the wind sent upon them was only the amount seen in a ring.' Abu Wa'il said, 'That is what has reached us as well.'"
