English Translation
Narrated Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani: I was sitting with Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) near the Ka'ba when a man from the village came and said, "What is the reason that I see the children of your uncle giving people a drink of honey-sherbet and milk, while you give a drink of date-sherbet? Have you chosen this out of poverty or out of miserliness?" So Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "Praise be to Allah! We have neither poverty nor miserliness. The real reason for this is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) came on his she-camel, and behind him was Usama (may Allah be pleased with him). And he (peace be upon him) asked for water, so we brought date-sherbet in a bowl. And he (peace be upon him) drank, and gave what remained of it to Usama (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (peace be upon him) said, 'You have done an excellent thing; keep doing likewise.' So that which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has commanded, we do not wish to change."
Urdu Translation
بکر بن عبداللہ مزنی کہتے ہیں کہمیں سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے پاس کعبہ کے نزدیک بیٹھا ہوا تھا کہ ایک گاؤں کا آدمی آیا اور اس نے کہا کہ کیا سبب ہے کہ میں تمہارے چچا کی اولاد کو دیکھتا ہوں کہ وہ شہد کا شربت اور دودھ پلاتے ہیں اور تم کھجور کا شربت پلاتے ہو، تم نے محتاجی کے سبب سے اسے اختیار کیا ہے یا بخیلی کی وجہ سے؟ تو سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ الحمدللہ! نہ ہمیں محتاجی ہے نہ بخیلی۔ اس کی اصل وجہ یہ ہے کہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماپنی اونٹنی پر تشریف لائے اور ان کے پیچھے اسامہ رضی اللہ عنہ تھے۔ اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے پانی مانگا تو ہم ایک پیالہ میں کھجور کا شربت لائے۔ اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے پیا اور اس میں سے جو بچا وہ سیدنا اسامہ رضی اللہ عنہ کو پلایا اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم نے خوب اچھا کام کیا اور ایسا ہی کیا کرو۔ پس جس کا حکم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمدے چکے ہیں ہم اس کو بدلنا نہیں چاہتے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 751]
