English Translation
Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "The most beloved fasting to Allah is the fast of Dawud (peace be upon him), and the most beloved prayer to Allah is the prayer of Dawud (peace be upon him). He (Dawud, peace be upon him) would sleep until the middle of the night, stand (in prayer, i.e., the Tahajjud) for a third of it, and then sleep again during the sixth part of the night. And he would fast one day and break his fast one day."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنہما روایت کرتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک سب سے پسندیدہ روزہ سیدنا داؤد علیہ السلام کا روزہ، اور سب سے پسندیدہ نماز داؤد علیہ السلام کی ہے۔ (سیدنا داؤد علیہ السلام) آدھی رات تک سوتے تھے اور تہائی حصہ قیام کر کے (یعنی تہجد پڑھ کر) رات کے چھٹے حصہ میں پھر سو جاتے تھے۔ اور ایک دن روزہ رکھتے اور ایک دن افطار کرتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 629]
