English Translation
Narrated Ubaydullah ibn Abi Yazid: He heard Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) being asked about the fast of the day of Ashura. He said, "I do not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) fasted any day, seeking its excellence over other days, except this day, nor any month except the month of Ramadan" (that is, among the days he regarded the day of Ashura as excellent, and among the months, Ramadan).

عبیداللہ بن ابی یزید سے روایت ہے کہانہوں نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا۔ ان سے عاشورہ کے دن کے روزے کے بارے میں پوچھا گیا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نہیں جانتا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے کسی دن کا روزہ رکھا ہو اور دنوں میں سے اس دن کی بزرگی ڈھونڈنے کو، سوا اس دن کے اور کسی مہینے کا سوا رمضان کے مہینے کے (یعنی دنوں میں عاشورہ کا دن اور مہینوں میں رمضان کو بزرگ جانتے ہیں)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 614]
