English Translation
Narrated Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): We were commanded to give charity, and we used to carry loads (as porters for hire). Abu 'Aqil (may Allah be pleased with him) gave half a sa' in charity, and another man gave more than that. So the hypocrites said: Allah has no need of this one's charity, and this other one gave charity only for show. Then this verse was revealed: "Those who taunt the believers who give charity willingly, and those who find nothing (to give) but their own labour."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابومسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہہمیں صدقہ کا حکم دیا گیا، اور ہم بوجھ ڈھویا کرتے تھے۔ سیدنا ابوعقیل رضی اللہ عنہ نے آدھا صاع صدقہ دیا (یعنی سوا سیر)، اور ایک شخص نے اس سے زیادہ دیا۔ تو منافق کہنے لگے کہ اللہ کو اس کے صدقہ کی کچھ پرواہ نہیں ہے اور اس دوسرے نے تو صرف دکھانے کو ہی صدقہ دیا ہے۔ پھر یہ آیت اتری کہ”جو لوگ طعن کرتے ہیں خوشی سے صدقہ دینے والے مومنوں کو اور ان لوگوں کو جو نہیں پاتے ہیں مگر اپنی مزدوری“۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 542]
