English Translation
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Three men gathered by the House of Allah, two of them from the Quraysh and one from Thaqif, or two from Thaqif and one from the Quraysh. They had little understanding in their hearts and much fat in their bellies (from this it is known that with fatness, wisdom is diminished). One of them said: What do you think — does Allah hear what we say? Another said: If we call out aloud He will hear, and if we speak softly He will not hear. The third said: If He hears when we call aloud, then He will hear when we speak softly. Then Allah revealed this verse: "And you were not concealing (your deeds) lest your ears, your eyes, and your skins testify against you..." the entire verse (but you supposed that many of the deeds you do Allah does not know).
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہبیت اللہ کے پاس تین آدمی اکٹھے ہوئے جن میں سے دو قریش کے تھے اور ایک ثقیف کا یا دو ثقیف کے تھے اور ایک قریش کا تھا۔ ان کے دلوں میں سمجھ کم تھی اور ان کے پیٹوں میں چربی بہت تھی (اس سے معلوم ہوا کہ موٹاپے کے ساتھ دانائی کم ہوتی ہے)۔ ان میں سے ایک شخص بولا کہ تم کیا سمجھتے ہو، جو ہم کہتے ہیں کیا اللہ تعالیٰ سنتا ہے؟ دوسرا بولا کہ اگر ہم باآواز بلند پکاریں گے تو سنے گا اور چپکے سے بولیں گے تو نہیں سنے گا۔ تیسرا بولا کہ اگر باآواز بلند پکارنے پر سنتا ہے تو آہستہ بولنے پر بھی سنے گا۔ تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری”تم اس لئے نہیں چھپاتے تھے کہ تمہارے کان، آنکھیں اور تمہاری کھالیں تم پر گواہی دیں گی ....“پوری آیت (لیکن تم نے یہ خیال کیا کہ بہت سے کام جو تم کرتے ہو اللہ نہیں جانتا)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2162]
