English Translation
Narrated Muhammad bin Amr: When al-Hajjaj came to Medina, we asked Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) (about the times of the prayers). He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to pray the Zuhr prayer at midday in the intense heat (that is, after the sun had passed the zenith), and he used to pray Asr at a time when the sun was still clear. And Maghrib he would pray when the sun had set. And Isha he would sometimes delay and sometimes pray early: when he saw that the people had gathered, he would pray it early, and when he saw that the people had been slow in coming, he would delay it. And the morning prayer he used to pray in the darkness (before dawn).

محمد بن عمرو کہتے ہیں کہجب حجاج مدینہ میں آیا تو ہم نے سیدنا جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے (اوقات نماز کے متعلق) پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمظہر کی نماز دوپہر کے وقت اور نہایت گرمی میں (یعنی بعد زوال کے) پڑھا کرتے تھے اور عصر ایسے وقت میں پڑھا کرتے تھے کہ آفتاب صاف ہوتا اور مغرب جب آفتاب ڈوب جاتا، پھر پڑھتے اور عشاء میں کبھی تاخیر کرتے اور کبھی اول وقت پڑھتے۔ جب دیکھتے کہ لوگ جمع ہو گئے ہیں تو اول وقت پڑھتے اور جب دیکھتے کہ لوگوں نے آنے میں دیر کی ہے، تو دیر کرتے اور صبح کی نماز اندھیرے میں ادا کرتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 207]
