English Translation
Narrated Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him): A questioner came into the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and asked about the times of the prayers. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him no answer at that time (because he intended to show him by demonstration). Then (at the time of Fajr) he ordered Bilal (to say the iqamah) and prayed the Fajr prayer with the break of dawn, when people could barely recognize one another (that is, because of the darkness). Then he ordered him and prayed Zuhr when the sun had passed the zenith, while someone would say that half the day had passed (that is, it was still midday), and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) knew best. Then he ordered him and prayed the Asr prayer while the sun was still high. Then he ordered him and prayed Maghrib when the sun had set. Then he ordered him and prayed Isha when the twilight had disappeared. Then the next day he ordered Fajr, and when they had finished it, someone would say that the sun had risen, or was about to rise. Then he delayed Zuhr until it was near the time of the previous day's Asr. Then he delayed Asr until, when they had finished it, someone would say that the sun had turned red. Then he delayed Maghrib until it was near the disappearance of the twilight. Then he delayed Isha until the first third of the night had passed. Then morning came, and he called the questioner and said: "The times of the prayers are between these two times."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی خدمت میں ایک سائل حاضر ہوا اور نماز کے اوقات پوچھنے لگا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس وقت کچھ جواب نہ دیا (اس لئے کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو کر کے بتانا منظور تھا) پھر (فجر کے وقت) بلال کو (اقامت کا) حکم دیا اور فجر طلوع ہونے کے ساتھ ہی نماز فجر ادا کی اور لوگ ایک دوسرے کو پہچانتے نہ تھے (یعنی اندھیرے کے سبب سے) پھر حکم کیا اور ظہر ادا کی جب آفتاب ڈھل گیا اور کہنے والا کہتا تھا کہ دن کا آدھا حصہ گزر گیا ہے (یعنی ابھی تو دوپہر ہے) اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسب سے بہتر جانتے تھے۔ پھر ان کو حکم کیا اور عصر کی نماز ادا کی اور سورج بلند تھا۔ پھر ان کو حکم کیا اور مغرب ادا کی جب سورج ڈوب گیا۔ پھر ان کو حکم کیا اور عشاء ادا کی جب شفق ڈوب گئی۔ پھر دوسرے دن فجر کا حکم کیا اور جب اس سے فارغ ہوئے تو کہنے والا کہتا تھا کہ سورج نکل آیا، یا نکلنے کو ہے۔ پھر ظہر میں تاخیر کی یہاں تک کہ کل کے عصر کے پڑھنے کا وقت قریب ہو گیا۔ پھر عصر میں تاخیر کی یہاں تک کہ جب فارغ ہوئے تو کہنے والا کہتا تھا کہ آفتاب سرخ ہو گیا۔ پھر مغرب میں تاخیر کی یہاں تک کہ شفق ڈوبنے کے قریب ہو گئی۔ پھر عشاء میں تاخیر کی یہاں تک کہ اول تہائی رات ہو گئی پھر صبح ہوئی اور سائل کو بلایا اور فرمایا کہ نماز کے وقت ان دونوں وقتوں کے بیچ میں ہیں۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 206]
