English Translation
Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Qutaybah informed us, Harmalah ibn Yahya narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, Yunus informed me from Ibn Shihab who said: Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman and al-Dahhak al-Mishrqi informed me that Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: While we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while he was distributing something, Dhul-Khuwaysirah came to him - a man from Banu Tamim - and said: O Messenger of Allah, be just. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Woe to you! Who will be just if I am not just?" Umar ibn al-Khattab said: O Messenger of Allah, give me permission regarding him that I may strike his neck. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Leave him, for he has companions. One of you will consider his prayer insignificant compared to their prayer and his fasting compared to their fasting. They recite the Quran but it does not pass beyond their throats. They will pass through Islam as an arrow passes through game. One looks at its iron head and finds nothing in it, then looks at its binding and finds nothing in it, then looks at its shaft - which is the arrow-body - and finds nothing in it, then looks at its feathers and finds nothing in it. It passed beyond the excrement and blood. Their sign is a black man, one of whose upper arms is like a woman's breast or like a piece of flesh that jiggles. They will emerge at a time of division among the people." Abu Sa'id said: I testify that I heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and I testify that Ali ibn Abi Talib fought them while I was with him. He commanded about that man, and he was searched for and found and brought, until I looked at him according to the description of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he described."
