Hadrat Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates: The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came out to us and stated: "My beloved friend Jibril has just left me and said: 'O Muhammad, by the One who sent you with the truth, indeed Allah has a servant from among His servants who worshipped Allah, the Exalted, for five hundred years on the summit of a mountain in the sea, thirty cubits by thirty cubits, with the sea surrounding him for four thousand leagues on every side. Allah, the Exalted, brought forth for him a spring of fresh water, the width of a finger, trickling sweet water that collected at the base of the mountain, and a pomegranate tree that produced one pomegranate each night to nourish him for the day. Each evening he would descend, perform ablution, take that pomegranate and eat it, then stand for his prayer. At the time of his appointed death, he asked his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, to take his soul while he was in prostration, and that the earth and nothing that would decompose him should have power over him until he was resurrected while in prostration. This was granted. We (angels) pass by him as we descend and ascend. We find in the knowledge that on the Day of Resurrection he will be brought before Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and the Lord will say: Admit My servant to Paradise by My mercy. He will say: O my Lord, rather by my deeds. The Lord will say: Admit My servant to Paradise by My mercy. He will say: O my Lord, rather by my deeds. The Lord will say: Admit My servant to Paradise by My mercy. He will say: O my Lord, rather by my deeds. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say to the angels: Measure My servant's deeds against My blessings upon him. The blessing of sight alone will be found to have encompassed the worship of five hundred years, with the blessing of the body still remaining as a surplus over him. He will say: Admit My servant to the Fire. The servant will be dragged toward the Fire and will cry out: O my Lord, admit me to Paradise by Your mercy! He will say: Bring him back. He will be stood before Him and He will say: O My servant, who created you when you were nothing? He will say: You, O my Lord. He will say: Was that from you or by My mercy? He will say: Rather, by Your mercy. He will say: Who gave you strength for the worship of five hundred years? He will say: You, O my Lord. He will say: Who placed you on a mountain in the midst of the ocean, brought forth fresh water from salt water, produced a pomegranate for you every night though it only grows once a year, and you asked Me to take your soul in prostration and I did that for you? He will say: You, O my Lord. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: All that was by My mercy, and by My mercy I shall admit you to Paradise. Admit My servant to Paradise, for what an excellent servant you were, O My servant! And Allah will admit him to Paradise.' Jibril (upon him be peace) said: 'Indeed, all things are by the mercy of Allah, the Exalted, O Muhammad.'"
Urdu Translation
حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں: نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے اور ارشاد فرمایا: «ابھی میرے پاس سے میرے خلیل جبرئیل گئے ہیں اور انہوں نے کہا: اے محمد! اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا، بے شک اللہ کا ایک بندہ ہے جس نے اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت پانچ سو سال تک سمندر میں ایک پہاڑ کی چوٹی پر کی جو تیس ہاتھ لمبا اور تیس ہاتھ چوڑا تھا اور سمندر اسے چاروں طرف سے چار ہزار فرسخ گھیرے ہوئے تھا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس کے لیے انگلی بھر چوڑا میٹھے پانی کا چشمہ نکالا جو پہاڑ کے نیچے جمع ہوتا تھا اور ایک انار کا درخت لگایا جو ہر رات ایک انار نکالتا اور اس کا دن بھر کا کھانا بنتا۔ شام کو وہ اترتا، وضو کرتا، وہ انار کھاتا اور نماز کے لیے کھڑا ہو جاتا۔ موت کے وقت اس نے اپنے رب عزوجل سے دعا مانگی کہ اس کی روح سجدے میں قبض فرمائے اور زمین یا کسی بوسیدہ کرنے والی چیز کو اس پر غالب نہ کرے جب تک اسے اٹھایا جائے اور وہ سجدے میں ہو۔ پس ایسا ہی کیا گیا۔ ہم (فرشتے) اترتے اور چڑھتے وقت اس کے پاس سے گزرتے ہیں۔ ہمیں علم میں یہ ملتا ہے کہ قیامت کے دن اسے اللہ عزوجل کے سامنے کھڑا کیا جائے گا تو رب فرمائے گا: میرے بندے کو میری رحمت سے جنت میں داخل کرو۔ وہ کہے گا: اے رب! بلکہ میرے عمل سے۔ رب فرمائے گا: میرے بندے کو میری رحمت سے جنت میں داخل کرو۔ وہ کہے گا: اے رب! بلکہ میرے عمل سے۔ رب فرمائے گا: میرے بندے کو میری رحمت سے جنت میں داخل کرو۔ وہ کہے گا: اے رب! بلکہ میرے عمل سے۔ اللہ عزوجل فرشتوں سے فرمائے گا: میرے بندے کے عمل کو میری نعمتوں کے ساتھ تولو۔ تو صرف بصارت کی نعمت پانچ سو سال کی عبادت پر غالب آ جائے گی اور جسم کی نعمت ابھی باقی ہوگی۔ فرمائے گا: میرے بندے کو آگ میں داخل کرو۔ وہ آگ کی طرف گھسیٹا جائے گا تو پکارے گا: اے رب! اپنی رحمت سے مجھے جنت میں داخل فرما! فرمائے گا: اسے واپس لاؤ۔ اسے اپنے سامنے کھڑا کرے گا اور فرمائے گا: اے میرے بندے! تجھے کس نے پیدا کیا جب تو کچھ نہ تھا؟ وہ کہے گا: آپ نے اے رب! فرمائے گا: یہ تیری طرف سے تھا یا میری رحمت سے؟ وہ کہے گا: بلکہ آپ کی رحمت سے۔ فرمائے گا: کس نے تجھے پانچ سو سال عبادت کی طاقت دی؟ وہ کہے گا: آپ نے اے رب! فرمائے گا: کس نے تجھے سمندر میں پہاڑ پر اتارا، کھاری پانی سے میٹھا پانی نکالا، ہر رات انار نکالا حالانکہ وہ سال میں ایک بار نکلتا ہے، اور تو نے مجھ سے سجدے میں جان قبض کرنے کی دعا مانگی تو میں نے کیا؟ وہ کہے گا: آپ نے اے رب! اللہ عزوجل فرمائے گا: یہ سب میری رحمت سے تھا اور میری رحمت سے میں تجھے جنت میں داخل کروں گا۔ میرے بندے کو جنت میں داخل کرو، تو کیا اچھا بندہ تھا اے میرے بندے! پس اللہ اسے جنت میں داخل فرمائے گا۔ جبرئیل علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: بے شک سب چیزیں اللہ تعالیٰ کی رحمت سے ہیں اے محمد!»
