English Translation
Narrated Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him): Two leaders of Najran, Al-Aqib (Abdul Masih) and As-Sayyid (Ayham), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) with the intention of performing mubahalah (mutual imprecation). One of them said to the other: "Do not do the mubahalah. If he is truly a Prophet and we invoke mutual cursing, by Allah, neither we nor our descendants after us will ever prosper." So they both said: "We will give you whatever you demand, but send a trustworthy man with us and do not send anyone other than a trustworthy person." The Prophet said: "I will send with you a man who is truly trustworthy." The Companions of the Messenger of Allah looked eagerly to see who it would be. Then the Prophet said: "Stand up, O Abu Ubaidah ibn Al-Jarrah." When he stood, the Prophet said: "This is the trustee of this Ummah."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہدو سرداران نجران عاقب (عبدالمسیح) اور سید (ایہم) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس مباہلہ کرنے کے ارادے سے آئے۔ (راوی) کہتے ہیں کہ ان میں سے ایک نے دوسرے سے کہا کہ مباہلہ نہ کر کیونکہ اگر وہ نبی ہے اور ہم نے اس سے مباہلہ کیا تو اللہ کی قسم ہم اور ہماری اولاد ہمارے بعد کبھی فلاح نہ پائے گی۔ پھر ان دونوں نے عرض کی کہ جو آپ ہم سے طلب فرمائیں وہ ہم ادا کرتے رہیں گے، لہٰذا آپ ہمارے ساتھ کسی امانت دار کو روانہ کر دیجئیے اور ہمارے ساتھ امین کے علاوہ کسی اور (خائن) کو روانہ نہ کیجئیے گا۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے جواب دیا:”میں تمہارے ساتھ ایسے امانت دار شخص کو روانہ کروں گا جو واقعی امانت دار ہے۔“اصحاب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمدیکھنے لگے (کہ کون جاتا ہے) پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”اے ابوعبیدہ ابن جراح! کھڑا ہو جا۔“جب وہ کھڑے ہو گئے تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”اس امت کا امین (معتبر اور دیانت دار) شخص یہ ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1689]
