Hadrat Abu Musa al-Ashari (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates: 'I came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) along with two men from the Ash'ari tribe, one on my right and the other on my left, while the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was brushing his teeth with a miswak. Both of them requested an appointment to a post. He declared: O Hadrat Abu Musa! Or O Abdullah bin Qais! I submitted: By Him Who sent you with the truth, they did not tell me what was in their hearts, and I did not know they were seeking a post. I can still see his miswak raised beneath his lip. He declared: We never appoint to our work anyone who seeks it. But O Hadrat Abu Musa, or O Abdullah bin Qais, go to Yemen. Then he sent Hadrat Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be well pleased with him) after him. When Hadrat Mu'adh (may Allah be well pleased with him) reached him, Hadrat Abu Musa (may Allah be well pleased with him) spread a cushion for him and said: Dismount and sit. There was a man bound beside him. Hadrat Mu'adh (may Allah be well pleased with him) asked: Who is this? He said: He was a Jew who accepted Islam but then reverted to Judaism. Hadrat Mu'adh (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: I will not sit until he is executed; this is the decree of Allah and His Messenger. He said this three times. Then the order was given and he was executed. Then they discussed the night prayer. One of them said: I pray and also sleep, and I hope that in my sleep I receive the same reward as in my prayer.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا: میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا، میرے ساتھ قبیلۂ اشعر کے دو آدمی تھے، ایک میرے دائیں اور دوسرا بائیں طرف، اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اس وقت مسواک فرما رہے تھے۔ دونوں نے عہدہ کی درخواست کی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: حضرت ابوموسیٰ! یا عبداللہ بن قیس! میں نے عرض کیا: اس ذات کی قسم جس نے آپ کو حق کے ساتھ مبعوث فرمایا، ان دونوں نے مجھے اپنے دل کی بات نہیں بتائی تھی اور مجھے معلوم نہیں تھا کہ یہ عہدہ چاہتے ہیں۔ گویا میں اس وقت آپ کی مسواک دیکھ رہا ہوں، آپ کے ہونٹ کے نیچے اٹھی ہوئی تھی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ہم ہرگز اپنے کام پر اسے مقرر نہیں کرتے جو اس کا طالب ہو۔ لیکن حضرت ابوموسیٰ یا عبداللہ بن قیس! تم یمن جاؤ۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے حضرت معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو ان کے پیچھے بھیجا۔ جب حضرت معاذ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ وہاں پہنچے تو حضرت ابوموسیٰ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ان کے لیے تکیہ بچھایا اور فرمایا: اتریے۔ وہاں ایک شخص بندھا ہوا تھا۔ حضرت معاذ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے پوچھا: یہ کون ہے؟ فرمایا: یہ پہلے یہودی تھا، پھر مسلمان ہوا، پھر دوبارہ یہودی ہو گیا۔ حضرت معاذ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: میں نہیں بیٹھوں گا جب تک یہ قتل نہ کیا جائے، یہ اللہ اور اس کے رسول کا فیصلہ ہے۔ تین بار یہی فرمایا۔ پھر حکم دیا گیا اور اسے قتل کر دیا گیا۔ پھر ہم نے قیام اللیل کا ذکر کیا تو ایک نے فرمایا: میں رات کو عبادت بھی کرتا ہوں اور سوتا بھی ہوں، اور مجھے امید ہے کہ سونے میں بھی وہی ثواب ملے گا جو عبادت میں ملتا ہے۔
