Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الأَشْوَعِ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ فَأَيْنَ قَوْلُهُ {ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى * فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى} قَالَتْ ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ كَانَ يَأْتِيهِ فِي صُورَةِ الرَّجُلِ، وَإِنَّهُ أَتَاهُ هَذِهِ الْمَرَّةَ فِي صُورَتِهِ الَّتِي هِيَ صُورَتُهُ، فَسَدَّ الأُفُقَ.
English Translation
It is narrated from Hadrat Masruq (may Allah have mercy upon him) that he said: I submitted to Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat ' Aisha al-Siddiqa (may Allah be well pleased with her): (You say the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) did not see Allah) then what about the Statement of Allah: 'Then he drew near and descended, and was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or nearer'? (53:8-9) She replied: That refers to Jibril (upon him be peace), who used to come to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in the form of a man. But on this occasion, he came in his original form and (his being) covered the entire horizon.
Urdu Translation
حضرت مسروق رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے عرض کیا: (آپ فرماتی ہیں کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اللہ تعالیٰ کو نہیں دیکھا) تو پھر اللہ تعالیٰ کے ارشاد «ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ» کے بارے میں کیا فرماتی ہیں؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: وہ تو جبرائیل علیہ السلام ہیں جو (عموماً) انسانی صورت میں آپ کے پاس تشریف لاتے تھے، مگر اس مرتبہ اپنی اصلی صورت میں تشریف لائے اور انہوں نے (اپنے وجود سے) تمام آسمان کے کناروں کو ڈھانپ لیا۔
