حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَبَّاحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَابِقٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْعَيْزَارِ، ذَكَرَ عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الْعَمَلِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ " الصَّلاَةُ عَلَى مِيقَاتِهَا ". قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ. قَالَ " ثُمَّ بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ ". قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ " الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ". فَسَكَتُّ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَلَوِ اسْتَزَدْتُهُ لَزَادَنِي.
English Translation
It is narrated by Hadrat Abdullah bin Masud (may Allah be well pleased with him) who states: I submitted to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Which deed is the most excellent? He stated: "Offering the prayer at its prescribed time." I submitted: Then which? He stated: "Being good and dutiful to one's parents." I submitted: Then which? He stated: "Striving in the path of Allah." Then I remained silent before the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and had I asked him further, he would have told me more.
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے، فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کون سا عمل سب سے افضل ہے؟ ارشاد فرمایا: "وقت پر نماز پڑھنا۔" میں نے عرض کیا: پھر کون سا؟ ارشاد فرمایا: "والدین کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کرنا۔" میں نے عرض کیا: پھر کون سا؟ ارشاد فرمایا: "اللہ کے راستے میں جہاد کرنا۔" پھر میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے مزید سوال نہیں کیا، اور اگر میں مزید پوچھتا تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مزید بتاتے۔
