Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَعِنْدِي رَجُلٌ، قَالَ " يَا عَائِشَةُ مَنْ هَذَا ". قُلْتُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ. قَالَ " يَا عَائِشَةُ، انْظُرْنَ مَنْ إِخْوَانُكُنَّ، فَإِنَّمَا الرَّضَاعَةُ مِنَ الْمَجَاعَةِ ". تَابَعَهُ ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ.
English Translation
Narrated to us by Muhammad bin Kathir, Sufyan informed us, from Ash'ath bin Abi al-Sha'tha, from his father, from Masruq, that Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Aisha Siddiqah (may Allah be well pleased with her) stated, 'The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came to me and there was a man with me. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked, "O Hadrat Aisha! Who is this?" I submitted, "He is my brother through suckling." He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared, "O Hadrat Aisha! Be careful about who your (foster) brothers are, for suckling is only established through hunger (i.e., during the period of infancy, the first two years)." Ibn Mahdi also narrated this from Sufyan.
Urdu Translation
ہم سے محمد بن کثیر نے بیان کیا، ہم کو سفیان نے خبر دی، اشعث بن ابی الشعثاء سے، ان کے والد سے، مسروق سے، حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا نے فرمایا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم میرے پاس تشریف لائے اور میرے پاس ایک شخص تھا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا: حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ! یہ کون ہے؟ میں نے عرض کیا: یہ رضاعت سے میرا بھائی ہے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ! دیکھو تمہارے (رضاعی) بھائی کون ہیں، کیونکہ رضاعت صرف بھوک (کی عمر) میں ثابت ہوتی ہے (یعنی دو سال کی مدت میں)۔ اسی طرح ابن مہدی نے سفیان سے بیان کیا۔
