Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ لَيْلَةً، فَلاَ تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ ثَلاَثِينَ ".
English Translation
It is narrated by Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Umm Salama (may Allah be well pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) took an oath that he would not visit some of his wives for a month. When twenty-nine days had passed, he went to them in the morning or the evening. It was submitted to him, "O the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah! You had taken an oath not to visit them for a month." He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "The month can be of twenty-nine days."
Urdu Translation
ہم سے ابوعاصم نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن جریج نے، ان سے یحییٰ بن عبداللہ بن صیفی نے، ان سے عکرمہ بن عبدالرحمٰن نے اور ان سے حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے شوال کی ایک تاریخ کی شام قسم اٹھائی (کہ ابھی روزے باقی ہیں) پھر اس سے رجوع فرمایا (یعنی اگلے دن سے عید شروع فرمائی)۔
