Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Aisha Siddiqah (may Allah be well pleased with her) narrates: 'When the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) arrived in Madinah (after Hijrah), Hadrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with them both) fell ill with fever. When Hadrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) was seized by fever, he would recite the verse: "Every person is greeted among his people in the morning, yet death is closer to him than his shoe-laces." And when Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) recovered from his fever, he would raise his voice and recite: "Would that I could spend a night in a valley (of Makkah), surrounded by Idhkhir and Jalil (fragrant grasses). Would that one day I could drink from the waters of Majannah, and would that the mountains of Shamah and Tafil would appear before me!" He then said: "O Allah! Curse Shaibah bin Rabi'ah, Utbah bin Rabi'ah, and Umayyah bin Khalaf, who drove us from our homeland to this land of epidemics." The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) then supplicated: "O Allah! Make us love Madinah as we love Makkah, or even more. O Allah! Bless our Sa' and our Mudd (measures of food), make its climate healthy for us, and transfer its fever to Juhfah." Hadrat Aisha (may Allah be well pleased with her) states: "When we came to Madinah, it was the most epidemic-ridden of Allah's lands." She states: "The stream of Buthan used to flow with foul and stagnant water."'
Urdu Translation
حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا: جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم (ہجرت فرما کر) مدینہ تشریف لائے تو حضرت ابوبکر صدیق اور حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بخار میں مبتلا ہو گئے۔ حضرت ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ جب بخار میں مبتلا ہوتے تو یہ شعر پڑھتے: ہر آدمی اپنے گھر والوں میں صبح کرتا ہے حالانکہ موت اس کے جوتے کے تسمے سے بھی زیادہ قریب ہے۔ اور حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا جب بخار اترتا تو بلند آواز سے یہ اشعار پڑھتے: کاش! ایک رات میں (مکّہ کی) وادی میں گزار سکتا جہاں میرے چاروں طرف اذخر اور جلیل (خوشبودار گھاس) ہوتیں۔ کاش! کسی دن میں مَجَنّہ کے پانی پر پہنچتا اور کاش! مجھے شامہ اور طفیل (پہاڑ) نظر آتے۔ پھر فرمایا: اے اللہ! شیبہ بن ربیعہ، عتبہ بن ربیعہ اور امیّہ بن خلف پر لعنت فرما، جنہوں نے ہمیں اپنے وطن سے نکال کر اس وبا کی سر زمین میں بھیجا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے (یہ سن کر) دعا فرمائی: اے اللہ! ہمارے دلوں میں مدینہ کی محبت اسی طرح ڈال دے جیسی مکّہ کی محبت ہے بلکہ اس سے بھی زیادہ۔ اے اللہ! ہمارے صاع اور مُد میں برکت عطا فرما، اور مدینہ کی آب و ہوا ہمارے لیے صحت خیز کر دے اور اس کے بخار کو جُحفہ کی طرف منتقل فرما دے۔ حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا فرماتی ہیں: جب ہم مدینہ آئے تو یہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی سب سے زیادہ وبائی سرزمین تھی۔ فرماتی ہیں: بُطحان (مدینہ کا ایک نالہ) سے بدمزہ اور متعفّن پانی بہا کرتا تھا۔
