English Translation
Yunus told us, Hammad -- that is Ibn Zayd -- told us, from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, from Aisha, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Medina while it was plague-ridden; it was mentioned that fever had struck them down. Abu Bakr fell ill, and when the fever took him he would say: 'Every man is greeted at morning among his own household, while death is nearer to him than his sandal’s strap.'" She said: "And Bilal, when the fever took him, would say: 'Ah, would that I knew whether I shall spend a night in a valley with idhkhir and jalil around me, and whether I shall ever come again to the waters of Majinnah, and whether Shama and Tafil will appear to me! O Allah, curse Utba ibn Rabi’a and Shayba ibn Rabi’a and Umayya ibn Khalaf, just as they drove us out of Mecca.'" When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw what they were suffering, he said: "O Allah, make us love Medina as we loved Mecca, or even more; O Allah, make it healthy, and bless us in its sa’ and its mudd, and transfer its fever to al-Juhfa." He said: So a child would be born at al-Juhfa and would not reach puberty before the fever struck him down. Ishaq ibn Isa told us, Malik informed me, from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, from Aisha, who said: "When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Medina, Abu Bakr and Bilal were struck with fever" -- and he mentioned the hadith, meaning the hadith of Hammad, except that he did not mention the story of the child.
