English Translation
Abu Kamil narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad narrated to us, he said: Asim ibn Kulayb narrated to us, from his father, from al-Falatan ibn Asim, may Allah be well pleased with him, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, when revelation was sent down to him. When revelation descended upon him, he would open his eyes and devote his hearing and sight to what came to him from Allah. When it was finished, he said to the scribe: "Write: 'Not equal are those of the believers who sit [at home] and those who strive in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred those who strive over those who sit by a degree' [Quran 4:95]." Then Ibn Umm Maktum, the blind man, stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, excuse us." Then Allah revealed [a further verse] while he was standing, and he said to the scribe: "Write: 'other than those with disabilities.'" This hadith has been narrated with similar wording through various routes. We mentioned it from al-Falatan because of the rarity of al-Falatan's hadith, even though it has been narrated through other chains that are better than this chain, with different wording.
