وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ أنبأ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ أنبأ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ أنبأ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّينَانِيُّ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ مَا نَقَضَ قَوْمٌ الْعَهْدَ قَطُّ إِلَّا سَلَّطَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوَّهُمْ وَلَا فَشَتِ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي قَوْمٍ إِلَّا أَخَذَهُمُ اللهُ بِالْمَوْتِ وَمَا طَفَّفَ قَوْمٌ الْمِيزَانَ إِلَّا أَخَذَهُمُ اللهُ بِالسِّنِينَ وَمَا مَنَعَ قَوْمٌ الزَّكَاةَ إِلَّا مَنَعَهُمُ اللهُ الْقَطْرَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا جَارَ قَوْمٌ فِي حُكْمٍ إِلَّا كَانَ الْبَأْسُ بَيْنَهُمْ أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ وَالْقَتْلُ
English Translation
Abu Ali al-Rudhbari narrated to us... from Ibn Abbas who said: 'No people ever broke their covenant except that Allah gave their enemy power over them. No immorality ever spread among a people except that Allah seized them with death. No people ever cheated in weighing except that Allah seized them with years of famine. No people ever withheld zakat except that Allah withheld rain from the sky for them. And no people ever judged unjustly except that conflict would be among them' - I think he said - 'and killing.'
