أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ ثنا قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ كَانَ أَمِيرٌ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ يُؤَخِّرُ الصَّلَاةَ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِمِيقَاتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَلَا تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَنْ أُصَلِّيَ مَعَهُمْ
English Translation
Abu al-Husayn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Bishran al-Adl informed us in Baghdad, Abu Ali Isma'il ibn Muhammad al-Saffar informed us, Abbas ibn Muhammad al-Duri narrated to us, Qabisah ibn Uqbah narrated to us, Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to us from Ayyub from Abu al-Aliyah from Abdullah ibn al-Samit who said: A certain governor used to delay the prayer. I asked Abu Dharr, and he struck my thigh and said: 'I asked my beloved friend — meaning the Prophet (peace be upon him) — and he struck my thigh and said: Pray the prayer at its proper time. If you then catch the congregation, pray with them, and do not say: I have already prayed so I will not pray with them.'
