أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ إِمْلَاءً ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ سَمِعَ جَلَبَةَ رِجَالٍ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى دَعَاهُمْ فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكُمْ؟ قَالُوا اسْتَعْجَلْنَا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا إِذَا أَتَيْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ فَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّكِينَةُ فَمَا أَدْرَكْتُمْ فَصَلُّوا وَمَا سُبِقْتُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا
English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us by dictation, Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir from Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah from his father who said: While we were praying with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he heard the commotion of men. When he finished praying, he called them and said: 'What was the matter with you?' They said: 'We hurried to the prayer.' He said: 'Do not do that. When you come to the prayer, maintain your composure. Whatever you catch, pray it; and whatever you were preceded in, complete it.'
