وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ؓ قَالَ خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِيَّاكُمْ وَشِرْكَ السَّرَائِرِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا شِرْكُ السَّرَائِرِ؟ قَالَ يَقُومُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُصَلِّي فَيُزَيِّنُ صَلَاتَهُ جَاهِدًا؛ لِمَا يَرَى مِنْ نَظَرِ النَّاسِ إِلَيْهِ فَذَاكَ شِرْكُ السَّرَائِرِ
English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Saffar narrated to us, Bishr ibn Musa narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sa'id al-Asbahani narrated to us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us from Sa'd ibn Ishaq ibn Ka'b ibn Ujrah from Asim ibn Umar ibn Qatadah from Mahmud ibn Labid from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) came out and said: 'O people, beware of the hidden shirk.' They said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the hidden shirk? He said: 'A man stands and prays, beautifying his prayer excessively because of the people watching him. That is the hidden shirk.'
