أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَامِدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي خَلَفِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الصُّوفِيُّ الْإِسْفِرَايِينِيُّ بِهَا ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزْدَادَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ أنبأ سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ قَدِمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُهَاجِرًا وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ التَّمْرُ فَقَالَ تَعَالَ كُلْ قَالَ فَجَعَلْتُ آكُلُ التَّمْرَ قَالَ تَأْكُلُ التَّمْرَ وَبِكَ رَمَدٌ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَمْضُغُهُ مِنْ نَاحِيَةٍ أُخْرَى قَالَ فَتَبَسَّمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ
English Translation
Abu Hamid Ahmad ibn Abi Khalaf ibn Ahmad al-Sufi al-Isfara'ini informed us there, Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Yazdad ibn Mas'ud narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ayyub informed us, Sahl ibn Uthman narrated to us, Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us from Abd al-Hamid ibn Ziyad ibn Suhayb, from his father, from his grandfather Suhayb who said: "I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) as an emigrant, and before him were dates. He said: 'Come and eat.' So I began eating the dates. He said: 'You are eating dates while you have an eye infection?' I said: 'I am chewing them from the other side.' He said: And the Prophet (peace be upon him) smiled."
