English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Ali ibn Hamshad, from Abu Amr al-Dabbi, from Amr ibn Marzuq, from Shu'bah, from Abu Ishaq, from Hassan ibn Fa'id, from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: Bravery and cowardice are instincts in people. You find a man fighting for someone he does not know, and you find a man fleeing from his own father. Noble lineage is wealth, and true honor is God-consciousness (taqwa). You are not better than a Persian or a non-Arab except through God-consciousness.
