English Translation
Abu Sa'id informed us: Abu Abdullah narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Nasr narrated to us: Ishaq narrated from his written records: Jarir narrated from al-A'mash from Abdullah ibn Khalid from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ma'qil who said: A man came to Ibn Abbas and said: 'What do you say about the grandfather?' He said: 'Indeed there is no grandfather. Which of your forefathers is the greatest?' The man was silent and could not answer, as if he was at a loss. I said: 'Adam.' He said: 'Do you not hear Allah's words: O children of Adam?'
