English Translation
Abu Sa'id informed us: Abu Abdullah ibn Ya'qub narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Nasr narrated to us: Ishaq ibn Ibrahim informed us: Jarir narrated from al-A'mash from Qays ibn Muslim from Tariq ibn Shihab who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) took a shoulder bone and gathered the Companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) to write down the ruling on the grandfather. They were of the opinion that he should be treated as a father. Then a snake emerged upon them and they dispersed. Umar said: If Allah had willed for this matter to be completed, He would have completed it.'
