حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى وَأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فَلَمَّا لَقِينَا الْعَدُوَّ انْهَزَمْنَا فِي أَوَّلِ عَادِيَةٍ فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فِي نَفَرٍ لَيْلًا فَاخْتَفَيْنَا ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لَوْ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاعْتَذَرْنَا إِلَيْهِ فَخَرَجْنَا فَلَمَّا لَقِينَاهُ قُلْنَا نَحْنُ الْفَرَّارُونَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ الْعَكَّارُونَ وَأَنَا فِئَتُكُمْ قَالَ أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ وَأَنَا فِئَةُ كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ.
English Translation
Ishaq ibn Isa and Aswad ibn Amir told us, both saying: Sharik told us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent us out on a raiding expedition, and when we met the enemy we were routed at the first onset. We came to Medina, among a group of us, at night, and we hid. Then we said: What if we go out to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and apologize to him? So we went out, and when we met him we said: We are the ones who fled, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Rather, you are the ones who rally to fight again, and I am your rallying point. Aswad ibn Amir said: And I am the rallying point of every Muslim.
