حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ رَأَيْتُكَ تَصْنَعُ أَرْبَعًا لَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ يَصْنَعُهَا قَالَ مَا هِيَ يَا ابْنَ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُكَ لَا تَمَسُّ مِنْ الْأَرْكَانِ إِلَّا الْيَمَانِيَيْنِ وَرَأَيْتُكَ تَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ السِّبْتِيَّةَ وَرَأَيْتُكَ تَصْبُغُ بِالصُّفْرَةِ وَرَأَيْتُكَ إِذَا كُنْتَ بِمَكَّةَ أَهَلَّ النَّاسُ إِذَا رَأَوْا الْهِلَالَ وَلَمْ تُهْلِلْ أَنْتَ حَتَّى يَكُونَ يَوْمُ التَّرْوِيَةِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَمَّا الْأَرْكَانُ فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمَسُّ إِلَّا الْيَمَانِيَيْنِ وَأَمَّا النِّعَالُ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ الَّتِي لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَعَرٌ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا وَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَلْبَسَهَا وَأَمَّا الصُّفْرَةُ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْبُغُ بِهَا وَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَصْبُغَ بِهَا وَأَمَّا الْإِهْلَالُ فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُهِلُّ حَتَّى تَنْبَعِثَ بِهِ رَاحِلَتُهُ.
English Translation
Ishaq ibn Isa told us: Malik informed me, from Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id, from Ubayd ibn Jurayj, who said: I said to Abdullah ibn Umar: O Abu Abd al-Rahman, I have seen you do four things which I have not seen any of your companions do. He said: What are they, O Ibn Jurayj? He said: I have seen you touch none of the corners of the Ka'bah except the two Yemeni ones; I have seen you wear tanned leather sandals; I have seen you dye with yellow; and I have seen that when you are in Mecca and the people enter the state of pilgrim consecration upon sighting the new moon, you do not enter that state until the Day of Tarwiyah. Abdullah said: As for the corners, I never saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, touch anything except the two Yemeni corners. As for the sandals, I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wear sandals that had no hair on them, and he would perform ablution while wearing them, and I love to wear them. As for the yellow dye, I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, dye with it, and I love to dye with it. As for entering the state of consecration, I never saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, enter it until his mount set off with him.
