حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا الْهُذَيْلُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ جَلَسَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ بِمَكَّةَ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ أَبِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ مَثَلَ الْمُنَافِقِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَالشَّاةِ بَيْنَ الرَّبِيضَيْنِ مِنْ الْغَنَمِ إِنْ أَتَتْ هَؤُلَاءِ نَطَحْنَهَا وَإِنْ أَتَتْ هَؤُلَاءِ نَطَحْنَهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ كَذَبْتَ فَأَثْنَى الْقَوْمُ عَلَى أَبِي خَيْرًا أَوْ مَعْرُوفًا فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَا أَظُنُّ صَاحِبَكُمْ إِلَّا كَمَا تَقُولُونَ وَلَكِنِّي شَاهِدٌ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ قَالَ كَالشَّاةِ بَيْنَ الْغَنَمَيْنِ فَقَالَ هُوَ سَوَاءٌ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُهُ.
English Translation
Khalaf ibn al-Walid narrated to us: al-Hudhayl ibn Bilal narrated to us, from Ibn Ubayd, from his father, that he sat one day in Makkah with Abdullah ibn Umar beside him, and his father said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The likeness of the hypocrite on the Day of Resurrection is like a sheep between two flocks of sheep: if it goes to these, they butt it, and if it goes to those, they butt it." Ibn Umar said to him: "You have lied." The people praised his father favorably, so Ibn Umar said: "I do not think your companion is other than as you say, but I myself witnessed the Prophet of God, peace and blessings be upon him, when he said 'like a sheep between two flocks,'" so the man said, "It is the same," and Ibn Umar said, "That is how I heard it."
