حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ كَانَتْ قُرَيْشٌ تَحْلِفُ بِآبَائِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ كَانَ حَالِفًا فَلْيَحْلِفْ بِاللَّهِ لَا تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ.
English Translation
Yahya narrated to us, from Sufyan: 'Abdullah ibn Dinar told me: I heard Ibn 'Umar say: Quraysh used to swear by their fathers, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever must swear, let him swear by Allah; do not swear by your fathers."
