Abu al-Nadr Hashim b. al-Qasim told us: Abu Aqil — meaning Abd Allah b. Aqil al-Thaqafi — told us: Hisham told us: My father informed me, from his mother Asma' bint Abi Bakr, who said: My mother came to me during the term of the treaty of Quraysh, being a polytheist and desirous — meaning in need. I asked the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, 'O Messenger of God, my mother has come to me, and she is a polytheist and desirous — shall I maintain ties with her?' He said, 'Maintain ties with your mother.'
