حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذُيُولُ النِّسَاءِ شِبْرٌ قُلْتُ إِذَنْ تَبْدُوَ أَقْدَامُهُنَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَذِرَاعٌ لَا تَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ.
English Translation
Yazid told us, he said Muhammad b. Ishaq told us, from Nafi', from Safiyyah bint Abi 'Ubayd, from Umm Salamah, wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Women's hems should be a handspan [longer than the ankle]." I said, "Then their feet would be exposed, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then a forearm's length, no more."
