English Translation
Muhammad b. Abi 'Adiyy told us, from Muhammad b. Ishaq, who said Abu 'Ubaydah b. 'Abdullah b. Zam'ah told me, from his father and from his mother Zaynab bint Abi Salamah, from Umm Salamah - both relating this together from her - who said: My night on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come to me was the evening of the Day of Sacrifice. She said: So he came to me, and Wahb b. Zam'ah came in to me, along with a man from the family of Abu Umayyah, both wearing shirts [while still in ihram]. She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Wahb, "Have you yet performed the tawaf of ifadah, Abu 'Abdullah?" He said, "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Take off the shirt." So he took it off over his head, and his companion took his off over his head as well. Then they said, "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "This is a day on which you were permitted, once you have thrown the pebbles at the Jamrah, to become released from everything you were restricted from, except women, until evening comes upon you before you have circled this House - then you return to the state of ihram you were in before throwing the pebbles at the Jamrah, until you circle it." Muhammad said: Abu 'Ubaydah said: Umm Qays bint Mihsan, who was a neighbor of theirs, also told me: 'Ukkashah b. Mihsan went out from my house with a group of Banu Asad, wearing shirts, on the evening of the Day of Sacrifice; then they returned to me at night carrying their shirts in their hands. She said: I said, "O 'Ukkashah, what is the matter - you went out wearing shirts, then came back carrying your shirts in your hands?" He said - Umm Qays informed us - "This was a day on which we were permitted: once we threw the pebbles at the Jamrah, we became released from everything we had been restricted from, except women, until we circled the House. So when evening came upon us and we had not circled it, we returned to the state of ihram we were in before we threw the pebbles at the Jamrah, until we circle it - and we had not circled it - so we took off our shirts as you see."
