English Translation
Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Hisham ibn Urwa narrated to me, from his father, from Aisha, wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: Salma, freedwoman of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, or the wife of Abu Rafi', freedman of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, came to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking permission (to complain) about Abu Rafi', who had struck her. She said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Abu Rafi', "What is the matter between you and her, O Abu Rafi'?" He said, "She annoys me, O Messenger of God." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "How did you annoy him, O Salma?" She said, "O Messenger of God, I did not annoy him with anything, but he broke wind while he was praying, so I said to him, 'O Abu Rafi', the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, has commanded the Muslims that if wind escapes from one of them, he should perform ablution.' So he got up and struck me." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, began to laugh, saying, "O Abu Rafi', she only commanded you to do good."
