حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ سَائِبَةَ مَوْلَاةٍ لِلْفَاكِهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ أَنَّهَا دَخَلَتْ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَرَأَتْ فِي بَيْتِهَا رُمْحًا مَوْضُوعًا فَقَالَتْ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا تَصْنَعِينَ بِهَذَا الرُّمْحِ قَالَتْ نَقْتُلُ بِهِ الْأَوْزَاغَ فَإِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام حِينَ أُلْقِيَ فِي النَّارِ لَمْ تَكُنْ دَابَّةٌ إِلَّا تُطْفِئُ النَّارَ عَنْهُ غَيْرُ الْوَزَغِ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَنْفُخُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَمَرَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ بِقَتْلِهِ.
English Translation
Aswad ibn Amir told us: Jarir ibn Hazim told us, from Nafi', from Sa'ibah, a freedwoman of al-Fakih ibn al-Mughirah, that she came in to A'ishah and saw a spear placed in her house, and said: "O Mother of the Believers, what do you do with this spear?" She said: "We kill geckoes with it, for the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, informed us that when Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was cast into the fire, there was no creature that did not try to extinguish the fire around him, except the gecko, which used to blow upon it; so he, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered that it be killed."
