English Translation

Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to me, he said: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih al-Hadrami narrated to me, from Abdullah ibn Qays, who said: I asked Aishah, "Did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, pray witr at the beginning of the night or at its end?" She said, "He did all of that: sometimes he prayed witr at the beginning of the night, and sometimes at its end." I said, "Praise be to Allah, who has made latitude in the matter." I said, "How was his recitation — did he recite silently or aloud?" She said, "He did all of that: sometimes he recited silently, and sometimes aloud." I said, "Praise be to Allah, who has made latitude in the matter." I said, "How did he act regarding major impurity — did he perform ghusl before sleeping, or sleep before performing ghusl?" She said, "He did all of that: sometimes he performed ghusl and then slept, and sometimes he performed only ablution and slept." I said, "Praise be to Allah, who has made latitude in the matter."
