English Translation
It was narrated to us by Affan, who said: It was narrated to us by Shu'bah, who said: It was narrated to us by al-Hakam, who said: I heard Ibn Abi Layla [say] that Hudhayfah was in al-Mada'in when a dihqan brought him a silver cup. He took it and threw it at him, and said: "I only did this because I had forbidden him and he did not desist. Indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him - meaning - forbade me from drinking from vessels of gold and silver, and from silk and brocade, and said: 'These are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter.'"
