Rawh told us: al-Awza'i told us, from Hassan ibn Atiyya, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from Dhu Mikhmar, a man among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: The Byzantines will make a secure peace treaty with you; then you will fight together against an enemy and be given victory, safety, and spoils; then you will return until you camp at a meadow with hills, and a man of the Christians will raise a cross and say, "The cross has triumphed," and a man of the Muslims will become angry and rise against him and break it. At that point the Byzantines will betray [the treaty] and gather for the great battle.
