English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'ba told us, from Zayd Abu al-Hawari, from Abu as-Siddiq, from the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: The poor among the believers will enter Paradise four hundred years before the wealthy among them. I said, "But al-Hasan mentions forty years." He said: [I narrate] from the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: four hundred years, until the wealthy man will say, "Would that I had been poor!" We said, "O Messenger of Allah, name them for us by their names." He said: They are the ones who, when there is something disliked, are sent for it, and when there is a gain, someone other than them is sent for it; and they are the ones who are kept away from the doors (of rulers).
