حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ الْمُعَطَّلِ السُّلَمِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عَمَّا أَنْتَ بِهِ عَالِمٌ وَأَنَا بِهِ جَاهِلٌ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سَاعَةٌ تُكْرَهُ فِيهَا الصَّلَاةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَمْسِكْ عَنْ الصَّلَاةِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فَإِذَا طَلَعَتْ فَصَلِّ فَإِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ مَحْضُورَةٌ مُتَقَبَّلَةٌ حَتَّى تَعْتَدِلَ عَلَى رَأْسِكَ مِثْلَ الرُّمْحِ فَإِذَا اعْتَدَلَتْ عَلَى رَأْسِكَ فَإِنَّ تِلْكَ السَّاعَةَ تُسْجَرُ فِيهَا جَهَنَّمُ وَتُفْتَحُ فِيهَا أَبْوَابُهَا حَتَّى تَزُولَ عَنْ حَاجِبِكَ الْأَيْمَنِ فَإِذَا زَالَتْ عَنْ حَاجِبِكَ الْأَيْمَنِ فَصَلِّ فَإِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ مَحْضُورَةٌ مُتَقَبَّلَةٌ حَتَّى تُصَلِّيَ الْعَصْرَ.
English Translation
Abdullah told us, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami told us, Humayd ibn al-Aswad told us, al-Dahhak ibn Uthman told us, from al-Maqburi, from Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal al-Sulami: that he asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: O Prophet of Allah, I ask you about something that you know and I am ignorant of - is there an hour of the night or day in which prayer is disliked? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When you have prayed the dawn prayer, refrain from prayer until the sun rises. When it rises, then pray, for the prayer is witnessed and accepted, until it stands directly overhead like a spear. When it stands directly overhead, then that is the hour in which Hell is stoked and its gates are opened, until it passes your right eyebrow. When it passes your right eyebrow, then pray, for the prayer is witnessed and accepted, until you pray the Asr prayer.
