حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا أَبُو قَتَادَةَ وَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَا فَقَالَ شَاهَتْ الْوُجُوهُ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا تَقُولُونَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَالَ عَلَيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنْ النَّارِ قَالَ عَفَّانُ وَقَدْ قَالَ لِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Abu Muhammad ibn Ma'bad ibn Abi Qatadah informed us, from Ibn Ka'b ibn Malik, who said: Abu Qatadah came out to us while we were saying: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said such and such, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said such and such.' He said: 'May the faces be disfigured! Do you know what you are saying? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Whoever attributes to me what I did not say, let him take his seat in the Fire."' 'Affan said: And Muhammad ibn Ka'b told me. Hasan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Abu Muhammad ibn Ma'bad ibn Abi Qatadah. He said: I heard 'Abdullah ibn Ka'b ibn Malik narrating that Abu Qatadah came out to them - and he mentioned the same meaning.
