English Translation
Yahya narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, Abu al-Tayyah narrated to us, from Anas, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "When a deceased person is placed in his grave and his companions depart from him - and indeed he hears the sound of their sandals - two angels come to him and make him sit up. They say to him: 'What did you say about this man, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?' As for the believer, he says: 'I bear witness that he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger.' It is said to him: 'Look at your seat in the Fire. Allah has replaced it for you with a seat in Paradise.' So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'He sees them both.' As for the disbeliever or the hypocrite, he says: 'I do not know. I used to say what the people said.' It is said to him: 'You neither knew nor did you follow.' He is then struck with an iron hammer a blow between his ears, and he screams a cry that is heard by everything near him except humans and jinn."
