English Translation
Makki told us: Abdullah ibn Sa'id told us, from Harb ibn Qays, from Abu al-Darda, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sat one day on the pulpit and gave a sermon to the people, and recited a verse, while Ubayy ibn Ka'b was beside me. I said to him: 'O Ubayy, when was this verse revealed?' He refused to speak to me. Then I asked him again, and he refused to speak to me, until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came down. Ubayy said to me: 'You have nothing of your Friday except what you engaged in idle talk about.' When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, finished, I came to him and informed him, and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you recited a verse, and Ubayy ibn Ka'b was beside me, so I asked him when this verse was revealed, and he refused to speak to me until you came down; then Ubayy claimed that I have nothing of my Friday except what I engaged in idle talk about.' He said: 'Ubayy has spoken truly. So when you hear your imam speaking, be silent until he finishes.'
