English Translation
Yahya ibn Sa'id told us: Shu'ba told us: Umar ibn Sulayman, of the descendants of Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, told us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Aban ibn Uthman, from his father, that Zayd ibn Thabit came out from Marwan's presence around midday, so we said: "He would not have sent for him at this hour except for something he wanted to ask him about." So I went to him and asked him, and he said: "Indeed, he asked us about things I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'May Allah make radiant a man who hears a hadith from us, memorizes it, until he conveys it to someone else, for it may be that a bearer of understanding is not himself learned in it, and a bearer of understanding conveys it to one more learned than himself. Three qualities upon which the heart of a Muslim never feels resentment: sincerity of action for Allah, sincere counsel to those in authority, and adherence to the community, for their call encompasses those under them.' And he said: 'Whoever makes the Hereafter his concern, Allah will gather his affairs together, place contentment in his heart, and the world will come to him despite itself; and whoever makes the world his intention, Allah will scatter his affairs, place his poverty before his eyes, and nothing of the world will come to him except what has been decreed for him.' And he asked us about the middle prayer, which is the noon prayer."
