قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ تَمَارَوْا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ فَأَرْسَلُوا إِلَى خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ فَقَالَ قَالَ أَبِي قَامَ أَوْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُطِيلُ الْقِيَامَ وَيُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيْهِ فَقَدْ أَعْلَمُ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ إِلَّا لِقِرَاءَةٍ فَأَنَا أَفْعَلُ.
English Translation
[It is said]: Abu Ahmad told us: Kathir ibn Zayd told us, from al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah, who said: They disputed about the recitation in the noon and afternoon prayers, so they sent to Kharija ibn Zayd, who said: My father said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to prolong the standing and move his lips, and I know that this was for nothing but recitation, so I do the same.
