English Translation

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Mansur, who said: I heard Rib'i ibn Hirash relate, from Zayd ibn Zabyan, raising it to Abu Dharr, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "There are three whom Allah loves, and three whom Allah hates. As for the three whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, loves: a man who comes to a people and asks them by Allah's name, not asking them by any kinship between them, and they refuse him, but a man lagging behind them gives to him secretly, such that no one knows of his gift except Allah and the one to whom he gave it; a group of people who travel through their night until, when sleep becomes more beloved to them than anything that could be weighed against it, they halt and lay down their heads, but one of them rises, flattering Me [in supplication] and reciting My verses; and a man who was in a raiding detachment that met the enemy and was routed, yet he advanced with his chest exposed until he was killed or Allah granted him victory. And the three whom Allah hates: the elderly adulterer, the arrogant poor man, and the oppressive rich man."
