English Translation
Abdullah narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Muhammad al-Musayyabi narrated to us: Anas ibn Iyad narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Yazid, who said: Ibn Shihab said: Anas ibn Malik said: Abu Dharr used to relate that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The roof of my house was opened while I was in Mecca, and Gabriel, peace be upon him, descended and opened my chest, then washed it with water from Zamzam. Then he brought a golden basin filled with wisdom and faith and poured it into my chest, then closed it up. Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the heaven. When he came to the lowest heaven, he asked that it be opened. It was said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Gabriel.' It was said: 'Is anyone with you?' He said: 'Yes, Muhammad is with me.' It was said: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes.' So it was said: 'Then let him in, welcome to him.' When we rose to the lowest heaven, there was a man with dark masses of people on his right and dark masses on his left; when he looked to his right he smiled, and when he looked to his left he wept. He said: 'Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son.' I said to Gabriel, peace be upon him: 'Who is this?' He said: 'This is Adam, and these dark masses on his right and left are the souls of his offspring. Those on the right are the people of Paradise, and the dark masses on his left are the people of the Fire; so when he looks to his right he laughs, and when he looks to his left he weeps.' Then Gabriel, peace be upon him, ascended with me until he came to the second heaven, and said to its keeper: 'Open.' Its keeper said to him the same as the keeper of the lowest heaven had said, and he opened it for him." Anas ibn Malik said: He went on to relate that he found in the heavens Adam, Idris, Moses, Jesus, and Abraham, peace be upon them all, but he did not tell me definitively the order of their positions, except that he mentioned finding Adam in the lowest heaven and Abraham in the sixth heaven. Anas said: When Gabriel, peace be upon him, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by Idris, he said: "Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother." I said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Idris." Then I passed by Moses, and he said: "Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother." I said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Moses." Then I passed by Jesus, and he said: "Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother." I said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Jesus, son of Mary." Then I passed by Abraham, and he said: "Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son." I said: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Abraham, peace be upon him." Ibn Shihab said: Ibn Hazm informed me that Ibn Abbas and Abu Habbah al-Ansari used to say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then I was taken up until I emerged at a level where I heard the scratching of the pens."
