حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حَارِثَةَ قَالَ أَتَيْنَا خَبَّابًا نَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ لَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُهُ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ أَنَّ خَبَّابًا قَالَ رَمَقْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صَلَاةٍ صَلَّاهَا حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ الْفَجْرِ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ جَاءَهُ خَبَّابٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي لَقَدْ صَلَّيْتَ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ.
English Translation
Aswad ibn 'Amir told us, Sharik told us, from Abu Ishaq, from Haritha, who said: We came to Khabbab to visit him while he was ill, and he said: "Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Let none of you wish for death,' I would have wished for it." Ya'qub told us, my father told us, from Salih, who said: Ibn Shihab told me: 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal informed me, from 'Abdullah ibn Khabbab ibn al-Aratt, that Khabbab said: I watched the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a prayer that he prayed until it was near dawn. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, finished his prayer with the salutation, Khabbab came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, you have prayed..." and he mentioned the like of the hadith of Shu'bah.
